Forest Plan / Director’s Foreword

Director’s Foreword

The launch of Cumbria Community Forest’s first Forest Plan is an important milestone for all of us at Raise: Cumbria, and our incredible partners. This plan is not just a document – it is a clear, structured roadmap for the future of the Forest. It represents careful planning, craftsmanship, collaboration, and a deep commitment to creating something meaningful and lasting.

In a short time, Cumbria Community Forest has grown from an idea into a reality. We have planted trees, built partnerships, and engaged with local communities – bringing people together to create a greener, healthier, and more inclusive future. But this is only the beginning. There is still a lot to do, and we are committed to continuing this work with clarity and purpose.

Our goal is not just to plant trees but to create a Forest that is truly accessible to everyone. We actively support neurodivergent inclusion and believe that green spaces should be designed with neurodivergent people in mind. We know that doing so has the potential to transform lives and improve health, wellbeing, and opportunities for all. Nature has a real, measurable impact on wellbeing, and it is essential that our Forest is a space where all people feel comfortable and valued.

This Plan is our guide, our commitment and our invitation to the future. Together we can set down roots for a thriving Forest and source of joy and connection for generations to come. What we are creating here is vitally important, and I look forward to seeing it grow.
