Forest Plan / Vision / 25-Year Goals

25-Year Goals
These goals, rooted in our shared vision, set a clear and ambitious path for Cumbria Community Forest over the next 25 years, ensuring environmental, social, and cultural enrichment.
Each goal is considered equally important; their order reflects their role in ‘unlocking’ opportunities to achieve subsequent goals, although all goals support each other’s success.
Goal 1: Healthy Treescapes
Transform ecosystem health, carbon storage and climate resilience of local landscapes through tree planting, woodland creation and bringing unmanaged woodlands into sustainable management.
With woodland creation partners, expand tree and woodland canopy cover within our forest boundary from 12.9% to a minimum of 16.5% - an increase of at least 13,000 hectares.
Goal 2: Create Access
Democratise access to trees, woodlands and green infrastructure to improve community health, wellbeing, and pride.
Work with partners to identify strategic opportunities and deliver accessible treescapes for as many people as possible, prioritising health and wellbeing benefits and deprived areas.
Goal 3: Community Stewardship
Cultivate community stewardship and active participation in woodlands, placing treescapes at the heart of our neighbourhoods.
25,000 individuals actively involved in creating and maintaining woodlands.
Goal 4: National Centre
Become a national centre celebrating neurodivergent culture, enabling and researching the beneficial relationship between neurodivergent people and woodland environments.
